Dear Members, Last week was the 50th anniversary of the formation of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, and in two weeks time on 11 April it will be the 61st anniversary of the naming of Taekwon-Do. In the historical theme, then, here's a video from New Zealand's Taekwon-Do history - the New Zealand Demo Team from 1990. You might even spot a familiar face! We're gearing up for gradings at the moment so make sure you are doing some extra practice at home and if you do receive a grading form, get it into the office at your earliest opportunity (scanning or emailing a photograph to the office is fine).
Holiday Timetable It's hard to believe the school holidays are nearly upon us! During the school holidays we run a reduced timetable for better class numbers across all classes. Three Kings and Diocesan branch students don't have training in their regular locations during the holidays and are welcome to come to training at the Ellerslie branch during the holidays instead. Please check the April school holiday timetable which will run between Monday 18 April and Friday 29 April and make a note of what class time you should come to in the holidays. Note that the timetable is only temporary and for the school holidays. Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager

Dear Members,
We had a great first session of Road to Regionals on Saturday - check out some of these photos which include some cool flying kick action! This week we have a special guest coming to the Tuesday 6.30pm class, Master Peter Barbour from Australia. Easter Weekend With Easter Weekend coming up this week there are some changes to classes: - Saturday 9.30am parent/child class will run as usual - Saturday 10.30am Road to Regionals short course will run as usual - Easter Monday - all classes are canclled If you usually come on a Monday you are welcome to come to a class at the same time on a different day of the week. Monday Mini Kids hoping to grade who did not show their instructor their homework yesterday should try and come to a Wednesday class instead that week if they can - otherwise for those affected people only there is an extension on forms coming back in to Monday 4 April. Please do not leave getting your homework seen by your instructor and forms back in til late so you don't miss out. Mini Kids Grading Homework Kids need to make sure they do the homework page for their next rank in their white A4 mini kids book (not to be confused with the TKD Skills Book) and bring it to class to be signed off by their instructor - try and get on top of this early and bring it to your next class this week. Weekend Practice Time Looking for somewhere to do some extra practice ahead of gradings? Our Ellerslie building is open between 2-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays for TKD people from all around Auckland to come and do their own practice (not a taught session). As it is informal just wear dobok pants and a t shirt. This is 100% free for Warrior members from any branch and part of the benefits of your membership, and not just available around grading time - it's an all year round thing.Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
Thanks so much for your support of our fun club competition coming up in April - at last count we already had over 50 registrations!! If you haven't registered yet make sure you go over to our website and do it now - or sign up at our Ellerslie centre. We've also had a bunch of signs up for the Road to Regionals short course which starts this Saturday morning. It's not too late if you have a child or teenager ranked at least yellow belt who is keen to be extended in their training - you can register for all 9 sessions or pick the sessions of particular interest to them. You can check out the full info and register for that here. Mini Kids Grading Coming Up The first mini kids grading for 2016 is on Thursday 7 April. We are entering the pre-gradingperiod from this week until the final mini kids registration date cut off of Friday 1 April. This means that kids need to complete their homework in their Mini Kids Handbook (the white A4 book - not to be confused with the TKD Skills Book) and bring it in to show their instructor in class to have signed off from now on. Showing homework to your instructor is a prerequisite for grading approval so make sure you get on to this ASAP if you are hoping to grade. Mini Kids Gradings can be confusing, especially for those who are new to Warrior Taekwon-Do and looking forward to their first ever grading. We recommend checking out this article we put together for parents and kids hoping to grade this time round - old hands might find some tips useful for you too! The article also includes a link to a video showing all the techniques you will be tested on for your first mini kids grading and and some clips from a past Warrior grading to help kids and parents get ready. Read article now Colour Belt Grading Coming Up Our first colour belt grading for 2016 is coming up on Thursday 14 April - a month a way today. We are entering the pre-grading period from this week, and the cut-off date for grading forms to come back to the office is Friday 8 April. Remember it is not a race to get through the grades, so if you're not ready for this first grading there will be other opportunities this year. If you are serious about grading this time round, make sure you a doing some extra practice at home and using your syllabus book to help you. For more information about colour belt gradings we've got an article just for you which will be of particular interest to those who are looking forward to their first ever grading. Check it out here! Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
