Colour belts, your next opportunity to grade is at the end of August. No Monday Class Next Week As it is Queen's Birthday Weekend there will be no class on Monday. If you normally come to a Monday mini kids or colour belt class you are welcome to attend a class at the same time on a different day of the week. Please contact the office if you need some help with this. Future Tournament Dates After the awesome time we had at the Auckland North Regional Tournament quite a few of you have been asking when you can compete again! Great to see lots of people getting involved in the wider world of Taekwon-Do. Here's what's coming up on the calendar for tournaments: 9-10 July - National Tournament (Tauranga) enter here 14 August - Pee Wee Tournament (Pukekohe) details here 21 August - Under 18 Tournament (Counties Manukau) details here We don't do a big push for every tournament, but if you want to get involved make sure you bookmark the dates and look out for when registrations open for the tournaments you are interested in. And finally ... if you are a member of our members and parents only group you will have read about the inspirational young lady in this newsletter's photo. Dear Members,
What an incredible day yesterday. You ROCKED. So many Warrior competitors, parents, instructors and coaches supporting each other, cheering each other and offering helpful hands and encouragement - that's the stuff that's at the heart of being a community. We hope you tried something new, challenged yourself, found some courage when you were least expecting it, saw something that inspired you or saw something that you'd like to aspire to. And if you weren't able to make it yesterday, we hope to see you next time! We were really proud of the way you conducted yourselves. Big props and congratulations to Oliver Kelly on jointly winning Best Overall Blue Belt, and Warrior on winning the Best Overall Club! View photos from the tournament Watch the video of our silver medal winning team pattern in the Warrior members/parents only group Did you take some photos or video at the tournament? We couldn't be everywhere at once yesterday - so post your favourite two photos from the tournament to our Warrior members/parents only group so we can all enjoy! Last Days of Shop Sale Remember our sale ends at the end of May! - Uniforms are down from $85 to $70 - Sparring gear sets of boots and gloves are down from $90 to $70 - Private lessons are down from $70 to $50 for one hour, or down from $40 to $30 for half an hour. These can be purchased in May but used in June or July. Warrior Sweatshirt Special Our new Warrior sweatshirts (which looked pretty awesome at the tournament yesterday!) also have a special on them ... this week only you can get $5 off the price of your sweatshirt - just leave us a review on Google (see instructions here) and make sure you mention it when you come in to the Warrior shop at Ellerslie. Change to Future E-Newsletters From next week we will be running our newsletters through MailChimp. If you don't receive a newsletter at all next week please get in touch with us to troubleshoot. Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
Congratulations to our TKD Kubz who graded on Monday this week - what a great grading from these young ones! This Sunday our big big BIG tournament of the year is on - the Auckland Regional Tournament where all the clubs from our area come together to compete against each other. We have a whopping 50 people from Warrior Ellerslie, Warrior Three Kings and Warrior Diocesan entered for the regional tournament this weekend! The event is free to spectators and kicks off at 9am, so if you are not competing please come along and enjoy watching the tournament and supporting your fellow members. We have two teams entered into the team patterns event (a fantastic spectator event) that we look forward to supporting too. Competitors need to be there by 8.30am and if you do not have your Warrior badge yet you need to let me know ASAP! I will send an email out to competitors with some additional info in the coming days - so look out for that too. Officials Urgently Needed Every club is required to register at least 5 officials per 10 members competing - and so far we are running short on that number. There are some jobs which you need to have done an umpiring course, but also a lot of jobs you don't need any qualifications for, such as timekeeping in the sparring matches, ring marshalling and general help. For those jobs you don't even need to be a student, you can be a parent/guardian/friend of a member. If you are competing or have a child competing please seriously consider registering as an official. Can you help? If so, please register as an official. Club Sweatshirts Are Coming We are expecting our brand new club sweatshirts to arrive any day now! As many of you are hoping to get club sweatshirts to wear at regionals we'll be in touch as soon as they are here and give some details of how you can get one. Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
It's one thing being part of a club event, and it is another thing altogether to go as a club to an event in the wider Taekwon-Do community. There is nothing like it - the sense of community and the encouragement and camaraderie are simply magic. And we'd love for you to experience that - to get a sense of what is out there and what is possible. We'd like to invite you to the Auckland North Regional Tournament, the biggest local regular event on the annual calendar. It's just a suburb over from the Ellerslie dojang at the AMI Netball Centre in Stonefields/St Johns. Whether you come as a participant or as a supporter is up to you - obviously we'd encourage you to enter because you will learn a lot and really develop as a martial artist by participating. But whether you come as a competitor or a supporter, you will be inspired! You can enter any or all of the 4 individual events which are: patterns, sparring, specialty and power. We'd recommend that you enter patterns and choose at least one other event that you enjoy. If you really like flying kicks - enter specialty, if you really enjoy power enter that, if you like being tactical enter sparring. If you do enter this tournament you will be able to receive a Warrior representative badge for your uniform if you don't have one already. You can ONLY receive these badges for representing Warrior at an external event. If you need a badge drop me an email after you've entered so we can sort one out for you. All entries must be in by midnight this Friday so get onto it ASAP - the tournament itself is on Sunday 22 May. Enter here We are aware that there are some students whose ITKD registrations are not yet active with ITKD - those people ought to be able to register on Tuesday night. May Shop Specials We fitted quite a few people for new uniforms last week! Remember they are on special during May (down from $85 to $70), as is sparring gear (down from $90 to $70 for a full set of gloves and boots) and private lessons (down from $70 to $50 for 1 hour sessions and down from $40 to $30 for half hour sessions).
