Dear Members,
We hope you're enjoying your day off today! There are no classes today as it's a public holiday - but if you normally come on Mondays, please feel free to come to a class at the same time on a different day this week. If you are not sure which alternative classes you can attend, please contact the office. Pictured above is Chris Harris, a former Black Cap from the 1990s and one of NZ's all time best all rounders with Warrior instructor and double World Champion Miss Roisin Giles. Miss Giles taught Chris some TKD on Sunday for a segment on SKY's 'The Cricket Show'. Check out photos from the filming here, on our members/parents only group (ask to join if you're not in it already). How To Be Ready For Your Mini Kids Grading We are entering pre-grading period from this week until the final mini kids registration date cut off of Friday 20 November. This means that kids need to complete their homework in their Mini Kids Handbook and bring it in to show their instructor in class from now on. Mini Kids Gradings can be confusing, especially for those who are new to Warrior Taekwon-Do and looking forward to their first ever grading. So we've put together an article for all the parents and kids hoping to grade this time round - old hands might find some tips useful for you too! The article also includes a link to a video showing all the techniques you will be tested on for your first mini kids grading and and some clips from a past Warrior grading to help kids and parents get ready. Read the article here Get Ready for Under 18s! Full details and registration info is finally available for the upcoming final Under 18s Tournament in the series for 2015. Dear Members, This week we're continuing on with staff profiles of the members of the Warrior Taekwon-Do team. If you missed our previous staff profiles you can check them out here. Staff Profile Miss Kavita Jaduram has been training in Taekwon-Do for 12 years and received her 1st degree black belt in 2009. She is passionate about passing on the values of Taekwon-Do to her students and loves seeing them achieve their potential. She represented New Zealand at the 2014 Oceania Taekwon-Do Championships where she won gold medals in patterns and special technique. She is the head instructor of the Diocesan school branch of Warrior Taekwon-Do and is also an instructor at our Ellerslie branch. No Classes On Monday Next Monday is a public holiday so there are no classes. If you normally attend a class on Monday, please feel free to come to a class at the same time on a different day of the week. If you are not sure which alternative classes you can attend, please contact the office. Grading Dates The last grading dates for 2015 have now been finalised. Please put these dates in your diary and stay tuned for further information about how to be approved and register for the gradings in the coming weeks. Remember, if you wish to be considered for grading you need to be working on your grading techniques and goals now, not the week before the cut-off for registration. Also bear in mind that gradings are not a race up the syllabus and it's OK if you need to spend more time working on your techniques for the following grading. Colour Belt Grading Date - Thursday 26 November Mini Kids Grading Date - Thursday 3 December Have a great training week! Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
Welcome back to Term 4, and an especially big welcome to our new members starting this term! The photo above is from the International Instructor Course, where Warrior Head Instructor Master Paul McPhail is currently teaching 1,100 black belts in Argentina alongside other members of the ITF Technical Committee - with the help of a translator of course! Coming up this term there are opportunities coming up for Taekwon-Do students of all ages, so grab the opportunities available to you and run with them, and read on for more details! Adult Colour Belt Seminar If you are an adult ranked between green belt and black stripe there is a very cool seminar coming up for you to attend with Master Bhana (8th Dan) on Sunday 8 November. The seminar is called "Realising your potential - A Seminar for Adult Coloured Belts" and is specifically designed to help you reach your TKD potential. More information and registration Under 18s Tournament The final Under 18s Tournament is coming up on Sunday 15 November. Most of the details haven't been released yet, but we do know that it will be held in Auckland. If you are colour belt student aged under 18 from any of our branches we encourage you to work towards entering patterns at the very least. There will also be power, pre-arranged sparring and specialty events. If you are really motivated and enthusiastic about developing your competition skills we also recommend talking to Miss Roisin Giles or Miss Kavita Jaduram about opportunities to devlelop your competition skillset. Pee Wees (under 12s) There will also be a peewee section to the Under 18s Tournament on Sunday 15 November - a great opportunity to give a tournament a go for the first time. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand. Have a great training week! (or holiday!) Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager Dear Members,
Holiday Timetable Still On We're still on our reduced holiday timetable with our full class timetable starting up on Monday next week. Check out the holiday timetable here to see when you can come to classes. Members of Warrior Three Kings and Warrior Diocesan are very welcome to come and train at the Ellerslie centre over the holidays. Shout Out Massive shout out to Warrior instructors Mrs Sonya Robinson, Mr Kevin Matsuoka and their helpers Emma Hookings, Mischke Hendricks, Steve Milne, Joji Joseph, Jeny Joseph, Anton Keay-Davies and Kiahn Barnfield for running an awesome Taekwon-Do school holiday programme last week! There were around 60 kids who'd never tried Taekwon-Do before who got to experience all sorts of cool techniques, self defence and jumping kicks over the week. There are heaps of photos and a couple of videos from the programme on our Facebook page. Have a great training week! (or holiday!) Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager |
