After several awesome weeks of build up and preparation in class, the Pee Wee Tournament is finally upon us! At the time of writing, we have a team of 21 kids and their supporters heading to Pukekohe on Sunday for the tournament. All the best to the team and especially to those for whom it is their very first competition! If you haven't registered yet and are 12 or under, it's not too late to get your entry in. All Warrior entrants receive a club badge (if they don't already have one) so please get your entry in ASAP so we have time to source a badge for you. Register here This week our staff profile is of Warrior Taekwon-Do owner and head instructor, Master Paul McPhail (pictured above at his successful grading to 8th dan black belt). Staff Profile - Master Paul McPhail Master McPhail began training in 1975 and attained 1st dan black belt aged sixteen. He opened his first school in 1985, and began examining in 1988 on his promotion to 4th dan black belt. Master McPhail became Technical Director and Chief Examiner of ITKD in 1990. He attended five seminars with General Choi Hong Hi and received the 'Outstanding Instructor Medal' from the International Taekwon-Do Federation in 1994. He attained 8th dan black belt 2013. Master McPhail has always been self employed, initially as a freelance guitar teacher before being convinced by Master Rocky Rounthwaite to move to Auckland and become a professional Taekwon-Do instructor. He and his wife Nadia have been married for 26 years and they have two sons (Jonathan 26 & Jacob 15). Their daughter Portia passed away in the Elim Canyoning tragedy in 2008. Master McPhail's work for ITKD includes: - Chairman of the Advisory Panel (senior masters who over see the organisation) - Author of all ITKD techniques handbooks - Chief Examiner and Examiner trainer - New Zealand representative on the Oceania Taekwon-Do Federation - Webmaster for the ITKD website - Creator, editor and production manager for Taekwon-Do Talk Magazine - Coordinator for KiwiSport in Counties Manukau - Past High Performance Manager for New Zealand Congratulations Mrs Hart! Last weekend Mrs Debbie Hart, the head instructor of Warrior - Three Kings branch successfully graded to 4th dan black belt during the 2014 Instructor's Conference in Rotorua.
