Dear Members, Thanks everyone for an amazing day at the Auckland North Regional Tournament yesterday! Our Warrior Taekwon-Do community is known to be encouraging and supportive with great sportsmanship and this really shone out yesterday and was noticed by others. Big thank yous to all of those who volunteered their time yesterday to help with officiating (Master McPhail, Mr Kevin Matsuoka, Mrs Debbie Hart, Mrs Sonya Robinson), ring marshaling (Flynn's Dad, Mr Charles Coxhead), coaching/seconding (Miss Roisin Giles, Miss Kavita Jaduram, Mr Steve Milne, Mr Dimitri Marcel to name but a few), supporting, and encouraging (everyone)!!!!! It was also very cool to see some non-competing members come along to have a look and support too, and to see instructors Miss Roisin Giles and Miss Jacky Geurts in the demonstration put on by the New Zealand Team heading to Italy for the World Championships this month. And of course, congratulations to all of our competitors who all conducted themselves in an exemplary manner, and especially to those for whom it was their first formal tournament! Warrior did extremely well in the medal tally, and Oliver Kelly and Mischke Hendricks from Warrior also tied three-way with another competitor for Best Overall Yellow Belt. And which club won the Best Overall Club trophy for the most points? WARRIOR!!! There are lots of photos and videos from yesterday on our Facebook page, so make sure you check them out! If you're interested in representing the Auckland North region at this event or would just like to have some extra training with other clubs from the region we highly recommend coming along to regional trainings (Sundays 9.30-11am at Warrior). - There is a Pee Wee tournament in Pukekohe in June - The final two tournaments in the Under 18s tournament series are in August and November. Competition isn't everyone's cup of tea and we will be focusing on some different things as a club shortly, but if you are keen to develop your competition skills we have an awesomeCompetition Club which trains on Monday nights at 7.30pm. Competition Club is free and for anyone from any of our branches who are at least yellow belt, and you can come along to a session to see if it is for you before committing. Black Belt Grading This Weekend This weekend 17 candidates from the Auckland region are grading to black belt or grading to the next degree of black belt - a very rigorous testing over a whole weekend. If you would like to come and support Warrior instructor Miss Kavita Jaduram who is testing for 2nd degree black belt, or would like to just come and be inspired, the public part of the grading is at 1pm on the Sunday at Glendowie School. You can expect to see some destructions through tiles and wood and probably some of the exciting self defence against weapons (required at 2nd-3rd dan level), pre-arranged sparring and of course some of the cool patterns that black belts get to do. Best wishes, Rachel Bates Centre Manager
