Dear Members,

Last week we were very lucky to have Master Daher, 8th degree black belt from Australia visit our club and take our Thursday 6.30pm class. Our Warrior members and visiting Remuera club members learnt a lot and had an awesome time training with Master Daher.

We also heard in class from the Warrior team at the recent Under 18s Tournament about their experiences at the tournament. The full tournament results have now been posted online, and congratulations to Mischke Hendricks and Suhaila Sayid Ghoolam (pictured above), who won best overall belts at the tournament. Full Warrior results are now posted on our website here.

So if you're feeling inspired, don't forget to join the team heading to Pukekohe for the more relaxed and fun Pee Wee Tournament in just two weeks' time, as a competitor (if you're 12 or under) or as a helper (if you're over 12).

New Grading Dates
In addition to the TKD Kubz grading next week and the Term 4 Mini Kids Grading planned for the end of the term, we are also holding another colour belt grading before the end of the year as there were a few members who were very close to being ready for our October grading but needed a little more time - and participants in our recent adult beginner's course are now close to grading level too! So if you are a colour belt student interested in grading before the end of the year, keep working on and perfecting your techniques and syllabus and you may be able to grade in December.

TKD Kubz Grading
Who For:Children who wear orange belts and uniforms with paw prints on the sleeves, and train with Miss Jacky Geurts on Mondays at 3.30pm.
Kubz Grading Date: Monday 10 November, 3.30pm during class time
Cut-off for forms and payment to be received: Monday 3 November

The Kubz grading is now just one week away and today is the last day for your forms and payment to be received at the office, so please come prepared to present your paperwork after class today.

Mini Kids Grading
Who For: Children on the Mini Kids syllabus (and use the A4 sized Mini Kids Handbook syllabus)
Mini Kids Grading Date: Thursday 11 December, 4pm
Pre-Grading Week: Monday 24 November - Friday 28 November
Cut-off for forms and payment to be received: Friday 5 December

Factors considered in approving children for grading include their attendance, attitude and behaviour in class as well as their knowledge of the syllabus material to be tested on. Your instructors will be evaluating you in the lead up to the grading, but especially in the pre-grading week. If you have an exceptional reason to not be present during pre-grading week, make sure you speak to your instructor well in advance.

Colour Belt Grading
Who For: Kids grading for yellow stripe or yellow belt of any age (ask your instructor if you are not sure), AND teens/adults.
Colour Belt Grading Date: Thursday 11 December, 6.30pm
Pre-Grading Week: Monday 24 November - Friday 28 November
Cut-off for forms and payment to be received: Friday 5 December

Any students who graded in the October colour belt grading will not be able to grade at the December grading as it will be less than the required 3 months between colour belt gradings.Factors considered in approving students for grading include their attendance, attitude and behaviour in class as well as their knowledge of the syllabus material to be tested on. Your instructors will be evaluating you in the lead up to the grading, but especially in the pre-grading week. If you have an exceptional reason to not be present during pre-grading week, make sure you speak to your instructor well in advance.

Extra Practice Before Grading
We highly recommend coming along Open Dojang in the weekends for a bit of extra practice coming up to your gradings. During these sessions, which are free for Warrior members, the dojang is open and available for you to come and do your own training (unless there are special events being run on the day) and Mr John Matsuoka (5th degree black belt) and other seniors are available to help with any questions (make sure you use excellent etiquette when asking for help) - or you can do your own thing. These sessions run every weekend and are particular popular coming up to gradings, so we would certainly encourage you to check it out if you haven't already.

All Open Dojang users need to have a VIP keytag to scan as they come in the door. While your sessions are free, Warrior members just need to purchase a keytag from the office ($5 one-off) and are good to go.
Have a great training week!

Best wishes,

Rachel Bates
Manager
